This fall marks the anniversary of my debut children’s book—Before We Stood Tall. I have now, officially been a published author for 5 years (but worked towards that goal for 5 years before that!) Writing this story taught me so much about creating books for kids. I get asked a lot of questions about creating books for kids. Here’s a snapshot of my journey to making IN ONE WHALE’S BREATH, written by me, illustrated by @ccinyee and published by @kidscanpress 🐳 People often ask, “Where do your ideas come from?” Most of the stories I’ve created, come together from a variety of experiences, memories, or questions I’m wondering about. Here’s some of the initial sparks that got me started writing In One Whale’s Breath. Saturday story time and book talk was so fun! Thanks to all the kids and grownups who spent time with us, pretending to be animals, making art, and discussing the creative process and publishing! And special thanks to local independent bookstore, Petunia’s Place @petunias.place for creating this book launch event for me and @claireannettenolandbooks claireannettenolandbooks, to celebrate the publication of our newest books!
